Luo Nyanza is boasting of a good number of bright and very able leaders.
With a new set making its way into the scene in the concluded poll, especially parliamentary slots, there now exists competition as the group seeks to make its presence felt.
Here are some of the new lawmakers who stand out in Nyanza politics and might as well take over as the region's political dons.
1. Otiende Amollo
The first-time Rarieda lawmaker has proved his worth in the Luo Nyanza political arena.
He is running one of the most successful campaigns in the constituency dubbed 'Ondoa Nyasi' aimed at improving shelters for widows.
This, added to his vocal nature and close ties with area kingpin and opposition leader Raila Odinga, has ranked him among the likely ones to influence the region's political direction in the future.
His participation in Odinga's successful petition against President Uhuru Kenyatta's August 8 reelection has further made him a darling among the region's voters.
2. Babu Owino
Owino is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Embakasi East constituency and one of the most vocal lawmakers in the nation.
He is also very close to Odinga, and has since announced his Nairobi gubernatorial bid in the approaching 2022 polls and is also set for the 2027 presidential contest.
The controversial youthful parliamentarian will be a headache to his colleagues eyeing the Luo Nyanza kingship post.
3. Jared Okello
The Nyando parliamentarian is more of a silent schemer, who is also rumoured to be eyeing the Kisumu gubernatorial post in the near future.
He was recently elected Executive Director in ODM a position that has increased his political mileage.
Others include Kisumu Central lawmaker Fred Ouda who is also not new to controversy, at one point striping naked in defence of Odinga.
