Kenya African National Union (KANU) Secretary General Nick Salat has once again poked holes into Deputy President (DP) William Ruto's 2022 bid, as the Ruto-KANU rivalry intensifies.

In a Facebook statement on Monday, Salat scoffed at the DP for allegedly heavily depending on the Mt Kenya vote to realize his bid, which he termed funny.

He noted that the DP is blindly expecting the Central Kenya vote solely on the basis of his alliance with President Uhuru Kenyatta who is considered the region's kingpin, and not because he has the ability to deliver in that capacity.

However, he noted that the plan is likely to backfire, stating that Kenyans are now an intelligent lot.

"Ruto wants Kikuyu nation to vote for him not because he has the qualifications and what it takes to be president, but because we were in a political coalition. It sounds funny. What's good is that Wakenya wamechanuka (Kenyans are intelligent)," he said.

Salat is a close ally of KANU boss and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who is a sworn rival of the DP, as the two fight over the leadership of the vast Rift Valley region.

This comes only a day after Salat said that KANU is ready to wage war against the DP, one that will bring his leadership in Rift Valley to a halt.
