Bomorenda Member of County Assembly (MCA) John Ombati has condemned Kisii Governor James Ongwae for his continued overcharging of traders at Suneka market.
The MCA while speaking on Tuesday when he toured the market protested that the county government is demanding huge tax from poor traders yet it agreed not to charge high taxes.
"Ongwae must stop the county tax collecting officers from charging high taxes from the poor traders because he had agreed that traders in the market won't be charged same tax as those operating at Daraja Mbili market," Ombati stated.
The vocal MCA warned Ongwae that he will mobilize traders to protest should the county government fail to stop collecting double taxes.
He challenged traders not to accept any intimidation or blackmail from the county tax officers or reinforcement officers.
"Traders need to be united and speak in one voice. Any officer from the county double charging tax should be arrested, frog-marched to a police station," said the ward rep.
Ombati vowed to continue defending small scale traders saying he was elected to serve the people but, not allow the county government to mistreat poor locals.
