A police officer has been reported dead and two others seriously injured following an Al-Shabaab attack near Milihoi.
A report from Mpeketoni police station said a police land cruiser ferrying four police officers from Lamu law courts to Mpeketoni was ambushed at around 2:40 pm, with the suspected militants setting ablaze the vehicle after shooting two officers.
"The police vehicle was thereafter set a blaze by attackers before disappearing into the Boni forest bushes. Multy agency tare on the ground persuing the attack. Also civilian m/v Reg.No.KBB 563 M which was heading to Lamu was burned down," read the report from Mpeketoni police station.
Confirming the incident, Coast Regional Commander Noah Mwivanda said the officers were attacked along the Lamu-Garsen road at 2.45pm.
"A police land cruiser with our officers was heading to Mpeketoni from Lamu when they encountered the militants who ambushed them at Milihoi area. During the attack, another personal vehicle was also burned. The driver's whereabouts are unknown," he said.
The injured were taken to Mpeketoni Sub-County Hospital.
