Confirming the incident, area police boss Michael Lesmum said the suspect Samson Nyauma, 35, has been working in the area as a farm caretaker for the last 4 months.

"Nyauma excused himself from the farm where he was working with his employer to respond to nature call. He went straight to his employer's bedroom, stole the mobile phone valued at Sh15,000 and 1 sack of maize from the cereal store," said the police boss.

Lesmum said when the employers waited for the suspect to return in vain and realised later that he had taken off with the valuables.

"The employer reported the matter to police immediately. The suspect is being traced to Bonyando in Bonchari constituency where he hails from," he stated.

He appealed to members of the public to report to police the whereabouts the suspect.

The police boss urged residents hiring farm caretakers to scrutinize their family background before making recruitment.
