This follows reports that a member of the family, through his representative Ali Zandi, bought the minerals through local dealers, and has since been swindled by the rogue dealers.

Weda now claims that at no point will the buyer get his minerals, as judging by the look of things, there was no gold in the first place, and the entire deal was a hoax.

The commentator said that Dubai ruler will finally have to come to terms with the fact that he has been conned.

"The Sheikh will soon have to accept the loss because there was no gold in the first place. You cannot transport gold without the government's knowledge," he said on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation show on Wednesday morning.

The saga has since sucked in opposition leader Raila Odinga, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

However, Raila has since distanced himself from the issue, claiming that he is actually the whistleblower, also clearing the name of Matiang'i, while Uhuru remains silent.

The named businessmen allegedly involved in the trade include Zaheer Jhanda and Jared Otieno.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has also been named by the DCI as a person of interest in the scandal.
