Opposition leader Raila Odinga has for the past two decades maintained his position at the helm of the Luo Nyanza political arena and refused to let go.

His strong grip on the region has on most occasions seen him victimise his allies attempting to turn tables on him, some of whom have ended up back in his camp after learning their lessons.

The biggest victims of Raila's power are Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o and Siaya Senator James Orengo ended up back on their feet after a terrible defeat in the hands of Raila's men.

Nyong'o, then the Kisumu Rural lawmaker was part of a team of 5 lawmakers who opposed Raila's decision to merge the National Development Party with KANU in 2002.

A few days later the sitting Kisumu governor was branded a rebel who, unlike now, could not show his face anywhere in Luo Nyanza.

Orengo, on the other hand, was forced to bite the humble pie in 2005 and return to Raila and his new Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) before regaining his Ugenya seat.

The latter had, in 2002, opposed Raila's support for former President Mwai Kibaki's presidential bid, opting to vie himself on the Social Democratic Party.

He not only lost the seat after garnering only 0.4 percent of the votes but also lost his parliamentary seat to Stephen Oluoch Ondiek.

However, he regained his seat in 2007 on the ODM ticket.

Both leaders have remained close to Odinga after their misfortunes and are even considered his closest allies.
