Mr George Mosiori on Wednesday said despite the payroll audit that exposed several illegalities in employment, 'there are ghost workers who should be removed first'.

"Currently, we have over 1,000 ghost workers in the payroll. By ghost we mean, people who are paid but you cannot see them physically. These are different from those illegally employed. They are Satanic. You cannot see them," he said.

The Jubilee youth leader lamented that the wage bill in the county government of Nyamira has frustrated development plans, adding that Governor John Nyagarama should be genuine in his quest to clean the payroll.

"The wage bill is too high. We must address the issue of ghost workers. They are highly paid yet they are imaginary. The governor should ensure youths get these slots. Those behind must be prosecuted."

His sentiments comes even as it emerged that over 1,000 workers were illegally recruited to government, a move that has irked Governor John Nyagarama. He has reportedly instructed treasury to freeze their payments.

Governor John Nyagarama has struggled to stamp his authority, with the opposition accusing him of allowing 'cartels' to run government. But he insists that those responsible will face the law.
