Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has dismissed claims that he intends to vie for the Presidential seat in 2022.
Kibwana said he has no intentions of vying for the county's top seat as being speculated in some sections of the media.
The Wiper governor said his focus is to serve Makueni residents hence will not be dragged into petty issues.
“I am surprised that some people are campaigning and pushing for my presidency in 2022. I want to make it clear that I am not a party to the campaigns,” Kibwana said.
Kibwana addressed the press in Makueni on Tuesday.
The governor said he is happy serving Makueni residents as their governor.
“Makueni people gave me a mandate as their governor and I will execute it until the last day of my being in office,” Kibwana said.
A section of Kenyans through various social media campaigns are pushing for Kibwana’s candidature in the 2022 presidential race.
The Kenyans argue that Kibwana can make a good president and should, therefore, contest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
Governor Kibwana is serving his last term in office and is championing for Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidency in 2022.
Kibwana has been severally voted as the best performing governor in terms of development.
