A police officer is recovering at the Mediheal Hospital in Nakuru after an encounter with suspected armed criminals in Nakuru on Sunday.
The officer was reportedly attacked by the suspects while responding to distress calls from members of the public who had reported spotting a suspicious car in the area.
According to Nakuru East Police Commander Elena Kaburuku, the officer and his two colleagues were in the process of towing the car to the station when three men emerged and shot at them.
The police boss said that the officer in question was shot in both legs, and was rushed to the health facility where he was admitted.
“One of the officers is nursing gunshot wounds at a private hospital after he was attacked by a group of armed criminals while on duty,” Kaburuku was quoted by Standard.
She added that the suspects' attempts to drive off in the vehicle were thwarted by the officers who deflated the tyres, forcing them to escape on foot.
“Our officer is in stable condition after examination. We have launched investigations to arrest the criminals involved,” Kaburuku noted.
The vehicle was towed to the Bondeni Police Station.
