Don’t fear ‘flying’, MP tells Kenyans after horror Ethiopian plane crash

Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo has asked Kenyans not to fear ‘flying’ after the horror Ethiopian Airlines plane crash on Sunday that claimed 157 lives.

Maanzo while condoling with the families, friends, and relatives of those who lost their loved ones in the crash, said investigations will reveal the cause of the fatal crash and proper measures are taken.

Speaking on Citizen TV Breakfast Show on Monday, Maanzo lauded the decision by the Ethiopian Airlines and China Aviation to ground Boeing MAX 8 planes. 

He said the grounding will enable authorities to conduct investigations and recommend proper safety measures for the Boeing aircraft.

“I think the grounding of the Boeing planes is a good step forward and I urge Kenyans not to fear using planes,” Maanzo said.

Investigations into the Sunday crash that claimed 157 lives is on top gear.

Thirty-two Kenyans perished in the crash.

The Kenyan government has since dispatched a team to Ethiopia.

The team led by Transport Principal Secretary (PS) Esther Koimmet will coordinate and gather details of the crash.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga led Kenyans in mourning the victims of the crash.

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, ex-Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior also condoled with the victims' families.
