One person has lost his life following a road accident in Kithimani, near Yatta prison, Machakos County.
The accident which involved a personal car and a bus occurred along the Thika-Garissa road.
The car which was heading to Garissa from Nairobi collided with the bus which was coming from the opposite direction.
According to witnesses, the driver of the personal car was overtaking a lorry when he colliding with the bus.
The accident was confirmed by Yatta Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Karanja who said that the incident took place at around 9.30am.
"The personal car was dangerously overtaking and when the driver had overtaken a lorry, he collided with the bus," said Karanja in a phone interview.
"The bus driver tried not to hit the car but it was too late. The driver of the personal car died on the spot," he added.
The police boss noted that everyone else escaped unhurt.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Yatta Funeral Home while the two vehicles were towed to the Matuu Police Station awaiting inspection.
Karanja urged motorists to be careful on the roads and avoid unnecessary overtaking to avert accidents.
