Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has hit out at renowned venture capitalist and entrepreneur Manu Chandaria.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Sonko accused Chandaria of frustrating poor people in Mukuru kwa Njenga slums.
"I want to warn Mr Chandaria that l will not seat down and watch him frustrate the poor in the slums. If he wants to be compensated for the piece of land in Mukuru, he should use the right channel.
"We will not allow poor people in the slums to be conned and harassed by Manu Chandaria. The government is the one that should compensate him not the people in the slums. We as the government, we need to sit down and look for money for Chandaria but he should leave the people alone," Governor Sonko said.
Manu Chandaria is revered for his entrepreneurial prowess and his philanthropic work.
He has interests in the manufacturing industry and has employed hundreds of people.
Sonko said he is willing to see to it that the matter is resolved amicably as long as the residents of Mukuru kwa Njenga are not harassed.
He added that, according to existing documents, it is the government which is obligated to compensate Mr Chandaria.
