The days of police who have been harassing members of the public for no good reasons are numbered, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has vowed.
Speaking on Monday at the Mkunguni Square in Lamu Town, Haji said that his office will ensure justice is served for all families that have lost their loved ones at the hands of police.
The DPP assured the locals that he is committed to finding justice for them and noted that his team will camp in the region to listen to their plight before embarking on their cases.
He also revealed that Interior CS Fred Matiang’i will tour the region as investigations into cases of police brutality gain momentum.
“My office will be receiving complaints directly from locals with judges and lawyers on standby to deal with and conclude pending cases here,” he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Residents of Lamu County have been lamenting over mistreatment from the police as leaders urging the office of the DPP to ensure that police mistreating local residents are brought to book. Several residents have allegedly died in the hands of police.
Lamu residents led by Mkomani MCA Yahya Ahmed Shee have been faulting police over misconduct.
Haji is at the Coast to attend the second 'All for Justice: Closing the Gaps' service week.
