Veteran politician Koigi Wa Wamwere has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga of applying double standards.
The two leaders have been calling for political calm in the nation, and have joined hands in battling politicians they accuse of being obsessed with the 2022 succession debate.
However, according to Wamwere, the duo is applying double standards and is doing the very same thing they are warning other politicians against participating in.
He cited their recent visit to Kisumu County for the burial of Mama Dorka Nyong'o, the mother of Governor Anyang Nyong'o, which was dominated by politics.
Wamwere observed that the function at some point ceased being a funeral service and turned into a political event, especially after Raila's allies endorsed his 2022 presidential plans.
"The Kisumu meeting was a funeral event but was also a political meeting (Mkutano wa Kisumu ulikuwa ni wa mazishi, lakini pia ulikuwa mkutano wa siasa)," he said.
The former Nakuru senatorial aspirant was speaking on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Kero Nyeti show on Wednesday morning.
The event which was held at Ratta in Seme constituency took a political turn after ODM chair John Mbadi asked Uhuru to endorse a leader with integrity as his successor.
Similar comments were made by Siaya Senator James Orengo, who has been seen as lobbying support for Raila who, however, remains silent on his 2022 plans.
