Just before the televised address by President Uhuru Kenyatta from Mombasa, virtually all social joints across Nyamira County were full to capacity as residents eagerly waited to cross over the year in style.
A quick look at Nyamira Town and several social media forums show that many youths may have used the occasion to drain all liquor stores as a sign of perhaps forgetting the past and moving on.
Richard Onkundi, a manager at Seasons club said: "We have received more customers than before. It's full and we have seen many walking away. Perhaps we shall expand it. Many of those present are youths."
Besides the social joints, many faithfuls opted to use the occasion to go to various churches for the crossover, with songs colonising several regions.
Ndemo Monda of PAG Nyaronge, says his home church received several guests some of them from other denominations for the New Year party.
"We had worshippers from other Churches. It's all about coming close to God. We are thankful that the year has finally come to end. It's been fruitful after all."
In the neighborhood Kisii, all Pubs in town were filled to capacity with ravelers going to joints which are in the outskirts of the town for the New Year party.
