In a comment he made on a Facebook post he made on the interactions, Itumbi strongly rebuffed the claims that the DP's interaction with the kids had been choreographed.

He said that the visit was impromptu and not stagemanaged as claimed by the DP's detractors.

"The DP was not stage managing interactions. He made an impromptu visit and interacted with the people of Turkana as they are in that Manyatta," Itumbi's comment read.

Scores of social media users claimed that Dr Ruto was engaging in public relations gimmicks.

The Deputy President was in Turkana County to attend an interdenominational church service and to inspect projects undertaken by the national government.

Among the project he inspected was the reconstruction of the Kainuk Bridge.  He was accompanied by the county's Governor Josphat Nanok.

The DP's visit to the county comes about three months after shocking images of hunger-stricken people in Turkana were splashed on social media.

DP Ruto was loudly castigated for terming media reports about the hunger in Turkana as fake news.
