Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has urged Deputy President William Ruto to pick his 2022 running-mate from Western Kenya region.
Ruto is expected to vie for the presidency in 2022.
Speaking in Mumias, Kakamega County on Sunday, Khalwale urged Ruto to look nowhere else in his search for a suitable mate, proposing Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi for the slot.
On the other hand, he said, Ruto has another option in the name of Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, adding that the region is in full backing of Ruto’s candidature and, therefore, deserves a token of appreciation.
‘’As the Luhya region we have decided to back your presidency and hope that you do not turn your back on us like Raila Odinga when choosing your running-mate. Pick your mate from here,’’ he said.
However, Khalwale who doubles up as the Ford-Kenya Deputy Party Leader failed to propose the name of his party leader and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.
Wetangula has as well hinted at running for the top post in the same race, as is the case with Mudavadi.
Ruto is, however, yet to comment on the proposal.
