A court in Eldoret on Thursday directed the police to continue holding a lawyer who is accused of stabbing his colleague to death.
32-year-old Abel Mogaka allegedly stabbed his colleague on Friday, last week, during a house party in Annex estate which was attended by other lawyers and students from Moi University.
The victim, Calvin Ngaira, died on Tuesday while receiving treatment at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret town.
According to the Standard, the two are reported to have had a confrontation during the party before the accused allegedly stabbed his colleague with a broken bottle on the neck.
The officer in charge of the investigations, Richard Birech, requested the court for more time to allow him to conduct the investigations. According to the investigator, more time was needed to record statements from other witnesses.
Mogaka was charged with stabbing and injuring his colleague when he first appeared in court on Monday. The charges are however likely to change following the death of the victim.
Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulusta has given the prosecution 14 more days to wind up investigations into the case.
The motive behind the murder has not yet been established.
The case will continue on June 7, 2019.
