A 38-year-old man sustained serious injuries after irate residents descended on him with kicks and blows over allegations of raping a 100-year-old woman.
The suspect identified as Patrick is reported to have gone to the widow's home in Mavindu, Kangundo Sub-County on Wednesday night where he allegedly committed the crime.
The incident was confirmed by Mbilini Assistant Chief Onesmus Mwikya who said that the man was later handed over to the police.
Mulinge Munguti, a witness, told journalists on Thursday that the man invaded the lady's home on Wednesday night as she slept.
"He sneaked into the house through the window as the lady slept and forced himself on her. He chocked her with a piece of wood while he raped her and later fled the scene," said Munguti.
The witness noted that the woman also sustained minor injuries as she had scratch marks as well as bite marks on her cheeks.
Munguti further noted that irate residents launched a manhunt for the man and gave him a dog's beating before handing him over to the police.
The man is being held at the Kangundo Police Station awaiting arraignment in court, while the lady is receiving treatment at the Kangundo Level Four Hospital.
