Speaking on Radio Citizen early Wednesday, a fellow parliamentarian representing Lugari constituency, Ayub Savula, claimed that both leaders are eyeing the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat.

Savula, however, endorsed Wanga for the seat, noting that the National Assembly Minority leader is less likely to ascend to the post.

"Mbadi hawezi shinda kiti cha ugavana 2022. Wanga atamshinda asubuhi na mapema (Wanga will beat Mbadi to win the seat)," said Savula.

This, he based on Mbadi's recent role in the rejection of the contraband sugar probe report by the Kieni lawmaker Kanini Kega-led joint Agriculture and Trade committee.

Savula said that Mbadi has demonstrated his inability to serve in the interest of Kenyans, noting that the move has since as well affected sugar cane farmers in his own backyard of Homa Bay.

"Yeye aliambia wabunge wakatae ile ripoti kana kwamba hajui kuwa huko kwao pia kuna wakulima wa miwa (he mobilised MPs against the report without considering that some of his constituents are also cane farmers)," he added.

The committee took over the case after the 2017 mass importation of contraband sugar, initially rumoured to contain mercury and lead deposits.

Both Mbadi and Wanga are, however, yet to openly declare their bids for the post, currently held by Governor Cyprian Awiti.
