He had a ‘sweet language’ that made him have the ability to easily convince his victims in giving out their money, and then he would disappear into thin air.

“I used to carry out a proper research before pouncing on somebody. I would befriend my victims just to know their family backgrounds and financial status before acting,” he said.

“I started by conning a certain Asian who was working at the Kibos Sugar Company close to Sh60, 000 after trying out my hand in various manual jobs with little or no success. I decided to become a conman simply because I wanted to make quick money,” said Mr Okiri.

Born in Luanda, Vihiga County in 1986, the married father of two says that he used to live on a dangerous lane with police on his trail on several occasions.

“I was arrested, released and rearrested on many occasions,” he said.

However, his turning point came in 2013. “I saw Evangelist Joseph Nyuki singing and dancing for God at acrusade in Car Wash but he lacks one hand. I decided there and then that I had to change my ways,” he says.

He went to a Pastor at the Miracle Revival Pentecostal Church in Kisumu, sought for forgives, got saved and started a new life.

That is when he decided to sing for God, under stage name David Batizo. His first audio album titled Bahati Yangu has 11 songs among them Natafuta Bahati Yangu, Mambo Ndogo Ndogo and Dalili.

Last year, he set up a house and land agents office in Kisumu’s World Vision area.

He earns between Sh15, 000 and Sh40, 000 per month from his agent work.
