Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria is one of the MPs who has been opposed to the proposed Gender Bill which flopped on Wednesday.
Kuria in a past post, faulted the Bill saying if at one time no woman is elected in parliament, up to 87 nominations would be required to adhere to the rule.
“If no woman is elected in any of the 290 constituencies, we will need to nominate 87 women thus bringing the national assembly to 435 members from the current 348. Not a big deal. Some members will sit at the public and speaker's galleries,” he posted on November 18.
On Wednesday, Aden Duale asked the Speaker of the National Assembly that the bill is stood down after he sensed defeat.
Immediately, Kuria went on his social media account to celebrate the flop.
Speaker Justin Muturi pushed for the deferring of the bill and directed that the House Business Committee will direct on next Tuesday on when the bill would be reintroduced.
A female MP, who spoke to this writer anonymously, revealed that many MPs, including female MPs, are secretly opposing the bill because ‘they feel its implementation will be abused by party bosses’.
