In a letter addressed to the principal Joyce Orioki, the girl (name withheld because she's a minor) insited that she would not take exams on Saturday since it was her resting day.

"It is true that I have breached school routine but I can never take exams on Sabbath day," she protested.

A displeased Ms. Orioki sent the girl home on Tuesday to 'get counseling since it was a special case'.

"We have tried using our counselling team but no results. She has not go home and seek guidance," she said.

But social media users have questioned why the girl was discriminated yet the institution, despite being founded by Catholic church, is categorised as national school.

KNUT Treasurer John Matiang'i, at a function in Nyamira, sympathized with the girl, adding that the institution may have made a mistake.

"Clearly school days gives room for exams and not weekends. Teachers should think about it."

A section of activists from Gusii now wants Education minister Amina Mohammed to chip in and discipline involved teachers.

Led by Beavon Magare of Nyamira Bunge, they insisted that the principal ought to resign.

"Nyabururu is a national school and whatever happened should be condemned. The principal must be interdicted immediately," he said.
