A rebel opposition MP from Gusii region has said Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's promotion is not that important to be discussed.
South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro said promotions in government are common and therefore, Matiang'i's promotion should not worry people.
"It is common for people to promoted in government and Matiang'i's elevation is not a surprise. Politicians should not politicize the promotion since President Uhuru Kenyatta knew what he was doing by promoting Matiang'i," he said.
The vocal lawmaker dismissed claims that Matiang'i will derail Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 State House bid.
Osoro warned Gusii politicians against taking DP Ruto for granted saying Ruto's presidency is unstoppable.
"No one will stop God's plan. DP Ruto will successfully succeed his boss once he completes his second and final term in 2022. For now let elected leaders including me focus on development to boost the living standards of our people," he added.
According to the lawmaker, leaders pushing Matiang'i to vie for the country's top seat have ill intentions.
"Some individuals are only interested to make Matiang'i lose relevance despite him being a hard working civil servant," said Osoro.
