Siaya Deputy Governor Dr James Okumbe has appealed to all countries in the world to take advantage of the visit by former US President Barack Obama to invest in the county or forge business partnerships with traders in the devolved unit.
Dr Okumbe who was speaking during a live interview with KTN News on Thursday said institutions of higher learning across the world should also take advantage of the visit to forge collaborations with academic institutions in the lakeside county.
He said Obama's visit means a lot to the people of Siaya and in extension Kenya and Africa.
"The whole world will be watching at us," he said during the interview.
"My appeal is for investors to make use of the high profile event to make collaborative initiatives in boosting business. Institutions of higher learning should do the same."
There is one university in Siaya which is named after the former Illinois Senator but he revealed that a second one will open after plans for it are done.
Obama will be in Siaya on July 16 and he is expected to officiate at various events and the key one will be the launch of Sauti Kuu, an NGO run by his sister Dr Auma Obama.
