Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti has congratulated Wiper Party candidate Julias Mawathe for his win in the Embakasi South by-election.
In a message on her official Twitter account, Ndeti thanked Embakasi South residents for taking part in the mini poll and ensuring Mawathe retains his seat.
The vocal politician also lauded Mawathe for the good work he has been doing, noting that he deserved the win.
“Congratulations Julius Musili Mawathe for the deserved victory. Keep doing good, and God shall reward you abundantly. Thank you to all those who believed in the Wiper Movement Candidate and woke up early to exercise their democratic right. God bless you,” said Ndeti.
Mawathe garnered 21,628 votes defeating his rival ODM's Irshad Sumra who garnered 7,988 votes in the by-election.
The Embakasi South parliamentary seat was declared vacant after Sumra successfully filed a petition challenging Mawathe’s win at the Supreme Court.
In the petition, Sumra accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of siding with his competitor and using unverified results to declare Mawathe the winner.
Other leaders who have congratulated Mawathe for his win include Deputy President William Ruto and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
Sumra has since conceded defeat.
