Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, who is also the party's leader said the former Kakamega Senator has a constitutional right to do so. He wished him well and maintained that Ford Kenya, as a party, remains strong.

"My 1st deputy PL Dr Bonny Khalwale has made his democratic decision and choice to leave Ford Kenya. It is his constitutional right to associate with persons of his choice. Ford Kenya wishes him well in his new political trajectory. FK remains solid!!" reads a tweet by Wetangula.

Khalwale has for a long time now been supporting DP Ruto and it was just a matter of time before he made an official decision to join Jubilee.

He added that he will not be ashamed to form part of the next government as a Luhya representative.

"I will not be ashamed to find space for the Luhya people in the next government," Khalwale said.

The announcement comes a few weeks after Ford Kenya's disciplinary committee summoned him over misconduct.

On his part, the ex-Kakamega Senator said that threats to kick him out of Ford Kenya informed his decision to defect to Jubilee.
