Opposition leader Raila Odinga, despite enjoying massive support in his Luo Nyanza backyard, seems to be having a hard time exploiting his powers.

Consequently, a number of his relatives have since been thrown into the political cold, despite making their attempts on his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

His brother Oburu Oginga and cousin Jakoyo Midiwo have both been ejected out of their Bondo and Gem parliamentary seats respectively, despite both being Raila's turfs.

This is partly to blame for their leniency at work under the notion that they will automatically bounce back due to their blood relationship with the former Prime Minister.

And with Kenyans known to not condone lazy leaders, Oburu who inherited the seat from their father Oginga Odinga found himself out in the 2013 polls, when he lost to Gideon Ochanda.

Midiwo on the other hand lost his seat to Elisha Odhiambo in the concluded 2017 general elections, as Raila himself succumbed to President Uhuru Kenyatta in the presidential fight.

This is also as a result of the recurrent violent ODM primaries where a number of politicians have been accused of using their influence to secure a ticket.

And when the two failed to secure the ODM ticket, they could no longer use their big names to slip back to the August House.

Finally, both are suffering from the political dynamism being witnessed currently, as youthful leaders sweep across the electoral field unseating the veterans.

And with both having been in power for a minimum of 10 years, they have since given Kenyans a chance to scrutinize their work, and decided to allocate the jobs to new people who will deliver according to their (the people) wishes.

However, this comes at a time when at least two other are standing at the touchline awaiting to chip in the approaching 2022 polls.

These include  Raila's eldest daughter Rosemary who has since shown interest in the Kibra parliamentary seat.

Also in the list is his sister Ruth who is anticipated to be eyeing the Kisumu gubernatorial seat, at a time when both Oburu and Midiwo could be taking other shots at their former seats.

Whether or not they will make it, only time will tell.
