Ruto handlers are said to have been concerned over the DP’s trip to Luo Nyanza and the reception he would have got days after Gideon Moi, his Rift Valley rival, received a warm reception in the area.

The DP’s handlers feared that his constant altercation with Raila would lead to a hostile reception in the area.

The DP is expected in Migori where he will launch the Kehancha-Migori-Muhuru road and address roadside rallies.

The Monday visit will be the first formal visit to Raila’s background since the divisive 2017 elections.

Attacks by his lieutenants directed to Raila with calls to quit politics have left the two leaders at loggerheads.

“This constant jostling between DP’s supporters and those of Raila might play out during the trip. This would be bad bearing in mind that Gideon (Moi) received a warm welcome. This might be why his handlers decided to have him make ‘some peace’ with Raila ahead of the trip,” an Mp said.
