Former Kilifi Deputy Governor Kennedy Mwakombo Kamto was shot dead on Wednesday morning. Kamto was the first deputy governor in Kilifi.
He deputised Amason Kingi during his first term before defecting to Jubilee.
According to his wife, Fauzia Kamto, the killers stole her phone and some personal belongings.
“They had guns and slashers. They stole six thousand shillings, my phone and other personal belongings,” Fauzia said.
Kamto’s elder sister, Chiku, said that this was not the first time the former deputy governor was facing gunmen. She said that this was the third time her brother was being pursued.
“He knew very well that he was being pursued by unknown people,” Chiku said.
Mwakombo Kamto made headlines when he declared that he would seek to oust his boss Kingi, in the 2017 gubernatorial race. As elections drew near, Kamto resolved to join the Jubilee party to be the running mate of former Member of Parliament, Gideon Mung’aro.
