Siaya Senator James Orengo is considered the most likely heir to opposition leader Raila Odinga in the Luo Nyanza political bloc.

However, the latter has been so silent on the same to an extent that his desire to take over is becoming questionable.

He is also appearing noncommittal on taking the juicy slot and may achieve all that Raila could not achieve in his lengthy political career.

But the silence is most likely tactical as, just like Raila once said, you cannot inherit a man's wife when he is still alive.

Orengo, a renowned lawyer and long time politician could be awaiting the opportune moment to take the position.

Well aware that Raila still has presidential dreams in the near future, especially the 2022 general polls, it will be quite impossible to take over as the former premier still needs the region.

He is aware that Raila cannot willingly hand over the position currently, which will force him to fight it from him, which is another tough and suicidal job which could finish him politically.

With many years ahead and obviously bigger political plans, he might be considering it better to wait a little longer or land on the wrong side of Raila and slip into political oblivion.

Orengo tasted Raila's wrath when he attempted a similar coup during the 2002 presidential campaigns and had to lose his political footing for the next five years.

He might be banking on the fact that Raila is aging and being the closest to him and the most experienced and able to lead, he will automatically ascend to the throne.

Therefore, he doesn't need to fight or push in any way and just like a butterfly, stay still and wait for the prize to come to him.

To avoid appearing desperate, he seems to have decided to remain silent and follow Raila while bettering his chances even more.

And whichever way it is looked at, the seat is Orengo's, just waiting to be delivered.
