It is almost certain that former Rongo MP and Cabinet Minister Ochillo Ayacko will fly the ODM party flag in the upcoming Migori Senatorial by-election. This is after reports indicated that he won the party’s Electoral College vote. But where will this leave his bitter rival, Dalmas Otieno?

The next few months will no doubt determine Otieno’s own political future. A win for Ayacko in the October 8 by-election will put the political career of Nyanza’s seasoned politician on the edge.

However, a win for the former KANU stalwart in the region would have come at the right time when he requires the much-needed comeback after slipping during the 2017 election. But can he pull a surprise?

With over 30 years in politics, the former Rongo MP is a veteran in the country. However, the impending by-election is ODM’s to lose at least if the party’s popularity in the region is anything to go by. But with politics being local and with Otieno facing a familiar foe, most likely as an independent candidate, anything can happen.

Armed with an ODM certificate and Raila’s backing, Ochillo has an edge. But banking on his own political muscle, Otieno may spoil the party for the Orange movement.
