Hundreds of students are counting loses after fire gutted down four dormitories in two schools in Nyanza over the weekend.
On Saturday night, fire razed down two dormitories in Chulaimbo Boys Secondary School.
The school's boarding master Maurice Okuku confirmed that no student was injured in the incident.
"The school was calm; everything was fine until about 9:00pm when there was a loud bang at the prefects’ cube in Owira dormitory. It caught fire immediately which then spread to Omino dormitory. Almost everything was destroyed in the fire," the Nation quoted Mr Okuku.
According to him, about 200 students were affected, as they were forced to either spend the night in the dining hall or classes.
Elsewhere, fire burnt down two dormitories in Usenge High School in Bondo, Siaya County on Friday night.
The dormitories were being used by close to 300 students who were in class for the evening preps.
The incident was confirmed by Siaya County Education director Msibo Kituyi, who noted that no one was injured in the incident.
Last week, fire razed down a dormitory at the Ambira High School in Uguja Constituency, Siaya County.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electric fault.
