Hundreds of students from the institution boycotted classes and took to the streets, alleging that the current administration had embezzled funds at the institution thus lowering standards of the school in the North Eastern region.

The students had been protesting against Deputy Principal Mohammed Abdikarim and the school's student council.

The students said that there is no freedom of expression at the institution, with the student council being branded a "rubber stamp" of the administration.

"We cannot freely express our views. When you do it, the next response you get is a suspension letter. Our student leaders have no say too. They have been transformed as puppets of the administration despite the fact that we elected them to represent us," said one of the students.

Hours after the unrest, leaflets could be seen littered within the compound indicating that the incident could have been politically instigated.
