Migori County residents will on the 8th of this month go to the polls to elect a new Senator to replace the late Ben Oluoch Okello, with ODM’s Ochillo Ayacko and FPK’s Eddy Oketch being the front-runners.
In a move that may complicate matters for Ayacko and his ODM brigade, Solomon Hodo, who was running on the People Democratic Party (PDP) ticket has pulled out of the race.
Hodo has now declared his support for Oketch, who is also being supported by Migori governor Okoth Obado.
Obado is in detention after being accused of having a hand in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
“I believe Mr Oketch is the right candidate for this seat, and I urge voters across Migori to vote for him. I decided to support him after wide consultation," Hodo is quoted by the Standard.
Hodo comes from the Kuria Community, whose Members of parliament have also promised to back Oketch’s candidature.
"Kuria is totally in Jubilee. We cannot vote for ODM. We would rather vote for another party but not ODM. As Kuria, we have decided it is Oketch Eddy," Kuria West MP Mathias Robi told the Standard.
Oketch contested for the seat in the last general elections but lost to the late Okello.
