Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has hit out at politicians allied to team tanga tanga and kieleweke accusing them of dragging the country into election mood.
Sonko claims that the politicians in the two teams have refused to hid to President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive not to engage in early 2022 campaigns.
Speaking at St Stephen ACK Church in Nairobi during the Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) prayer service on Sunday, Sonko said that Kenyans are not interested in politics.
"Kenyans want development and services, they are not interested on who becomes president , governor or senator in 2022," the Nairobi Governor said in an event televised live on KTN News.
Sonko said that his government will not allow politicians to propagate early campaigns and debates in Nairobi.
He claimed that elected leaders allied to tanga tanga and kieleweke are brewing statements that could trigger violence in the country.
Sonko urged Kenyans to ignore the politicians engaging in early campaigns and instead support the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
"We only recognize and support the handshake and not tribal and selfish politics by team tanga tanga and kieleweke," Governor Sonko added.
Team tanga tanga is allied to Deputy President William Ruto and is backing his 2022 presidential ambition, while kieleweke is against the DP's 2022 presidential ambition.
