Political analyst Martin Andati has observed that Deputy President William Ruto could make it to the presidency regardless of the Jubilee government's performance.
Speaking on Monday, the commentator noted that the DP is a clever politician, and might still navigate his way to the top seat despite the government's apparent failure to realize most of its promises.
He noted that in the instance that the government fails, the DP has an option, and will most likely heap the blame on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his new ally and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
"Ruto ni mwanasiasa hodari katika propaganda. Akiona mambo hayaendi vizuri huenda akasema yeye alikuwa utingo serikalini, na akamlumu Uhuru kwa kushindwa na kazi kwa sababu ya kuweka mafikira yake yote katika salamu zake na Raila.
(In the instance that the government fails, he will simply say that he was just the second in command, and blame Uhuru for the failure, blaming him for dedicating all his attention to his truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta)," he said.
Andati was speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Monday morning.
He observed that a win for Jubilee will give Ruto an excuse to better his chances of winning by running away with all the credit.
"Akiona mambo ni mazuri katika serikali huenda akataka sifa kwa kusema eti walikuwa wanaiongoza wawili (he will simply argue that he was an important organ in the government, eyeing the credit)," he added.
The DP has since declared that his bid is inevitable, and has repeatedly hit out at a section of Jubilee and opposition politicians for allegedly trying to lock him out of the content.
