Nakuru Town East Deputy County Commissioner, Herman Shambi on Thursday led the exercise of destroying 153 bags of sugar unfit for human consumption in Nakuru town.

The sugar seized from a  go down industrial area was destroyed at Rhonda estate following a court order obtained by the public health department.

The DCC said that Kenya Bureau of Standards was undertaking tests for the other sugar consignment seized in Nakuru and results would be made public soon.

He called on members of the public to be vigilant and to report any cases of substandard goods including cooking gas.

“There is need for members of the public to be vigilant and ensure that they report cases of substandard goods including cooking gas,” said the DCC.

The Commissioner noted that members of the public have the obligation to make use of their consumer rights and should also ensure they access quality goods and services.

He called on KEBS to speed up investigations of the other consignment of sugar so that results can be known.
