The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has issued a statement on a case of alleged extrajudicial killings in Mandera where a woman was allegedly shot dead by a police officer.
In a statement seen by this writer, IPOA indicated that it had received a complaint from the Northern Advocacy Organization (NAO) over the death of a woman identified as Mama Abdia Omar Adan and that it had finalised its investigations on the matter.
The statement further indicated that the matter had been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) for legal action.
"Pursuant to its investigative mandate, the Authority received the complaint from Northern Advocacy Organization (NAO) on 11th November 2018 in respect to the death and investigation into the circumstances leading to the death. Commenced whence witness have been interviewed and statements recorded and relevant evidence including but not limited to police documents collected," the IPOA statement reads in part.
In early November this year, Ms Abdia Omar was shot dead allegedly by police officers while at her home in Rhamu, Mandera County.
In the incident, security officers from Rhamu police station are said to have stormed her compound following a tip-off by locals that her criminal son was hiding there.
