Presently, Kenya has only three elected female governors- Ann Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Joyce Laboso (Bomet) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui), up from zero in 2013 when devolution came into operation.

However, 2022 may turn out to be different as the country may see more women ascend to lead counties.

Prominent in the list of women with the capacity to challenge men and become governors include outspoken Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, her Busia counterpart Florence Mutua as well as Mishi Mboko (Likoni MP) and Malindi's Aisha Jumwa.

These four women MPs are outspoken, have cut their pie in the respective counties and therefore have the capacity to become county chiefs.

Besides, they are also so close to the country's top leaders including opposition leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto. Their closeness to the two gives them an advantage over the rest of the candidates as they may require minimal campaigns to clinch the seats.

Raila and Ruto are known for successfully holding campaigns for their political allies across the country.
