In a statement on Friday, Haji said the officials are being investigated for allegedly aiding tax evasion and tax liability.

According to DPP Haji, the investigation is being carried out by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and so far 80 suspects have been implicated in the scandal.

“Preliminary investigations have so far revealed that eighty (80) KRA staff are part and parcel of the criminal enterprise aimed at denying the country the much-needed revenue. These include sixty two (62) from the Domestic Taxes Department (DTD) and eighteen (18) from the Customs and Border Control Department,” Haji said in a statement on Friday.

Haji stated that action must be taken against the suspects to ensure sanity in the management of the country’s revenue collection.

The DPP observed that all those implicated will be arraigned in court once the investigation is complete.

He assured Kenyans that the fight against corruption will continue unhindered.

Haji added that the fight against graft will be extended to all public entities that are charged with the management of public funds and affairs.

He, however, said that the fight against corruption will be conducted within the confines of the law to protect the rights of the affected persons.
