Cherangany Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny has asked Uasin governor Jackson Mandago to resign from the maize crisis taskforce.
Speaking in his constituency on Wednesday, Kutuny said governor Mandago does not have farmers interests at heart hence he cannot address their issues.
“How can a person who has been in the forefront of telling farmers to diversify and plant avocados instead of maize be trusted to address farmers woes?” asked the MP.
President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Mandago to the task force that was mandated to bringing a permanent solution to the problems haunting maize production in the North Rift.
The governor has been on the forefront in urging maize farmers to diversify and plant alternative crops apart from maize and wheat, a call that has been resisted by a section of farmers.
On the fight against corruption and claims that the Kalenjin community was being targeted, Kutuny said that everyone should carry his/her own cross.
“Individuals from the Kalenjin community implicated in graft should not drag the community into their problems. They stole resources from Kenyans and used on their own. They did not invite Kalenjins to get a share of their stolen resources,” he noted.
