It will be not business as usual for people who are fond of making long calls to their loved ones as Safaricom has announced plans to increase their charges.
Others to be hard hit are business people who make long calls fixing deals.
As a result of the increased taxes passed in the Finance Act 2018, particularly the Excise Duty tax applicable on Voice, SMS and Data services which increased from 10% to 15%, Safaricom said they will increase the cost for voice calls and data by 30 cents and SMS by 10 cents as from midnight.
“We wish to notify our customers that from midnight tonight, the 18th October 2018, our headline price for voice calls and data will increase by 30 cents and SMS by 10 cents,” a statement from Safaricom said.
Kenyans had complained of the Finance Bill urging MPs to reject it.MPs, however, failed to get the required number to shoot down the bill.
