The DP said the opinion poll is "fake news" telling his opponents to abandon the dirty politics, face reality and wait to take on him in 2022 when Kenyans will elect the country's fifth president.

"When my competitors are through with (Monday-Sunday) sponsored headlines, paid opinion polls and fake news, they are welcome to the real contest based on real Mwananchi issues;  Standard Gauge Railway, roads, connecting people to electricity, equipping our hospital and Tivets and matters water. Nawangojea huko (I will wait for you)," he said in Nairobi on Thursday.

According to the poll, the DP was ranked top among leaders Kenyans think are the most corrupt in the country.

Ruto was ranked number one corrupt public figure with 33 percent of the 2,016 Kenyans interviewed saying he is corrupt.

Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru came second at 31 per cent.

The DP said on Wednesday that the poll may have been commissioned and sponsored by his political competitors who are out to soil his name as he angles at succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

Ruto is facing opposition from a section of leaders from Mt Kenya who say his graft fight record does not make him the best person to succeed Uhuru after 2022.
