Police in Elgeyo Marakwet County have commenced investigations into a shocking incident where a father and son reportedly died after a domestic fight.
The incident happened in the remote Embobut location of Marakwet East sub-county.
Trouble reportedly began the father, Edwin Kipyatich hacked his son, Alex Ruto to death using a panga after a bitter argument. On learning of her son's death, Kipyatich's wife hacked her husband to death.
Confirming the incident, Marakwet East sub-county Police Commander Vincent Kitili said the father died as he was receiving treatment at Kapsowar Mission hospital.
“His wife grabbed the same panga and injured him with it on the head and neck. He was taken to Kapsowar Mission Hospital where he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment,” the police boss said.
The bodies have since been moved to Kapsowar Mission Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Details of the family fight could not be established immediately. Cases of domestic violence are steadily on the rise in Marakwet, something that has been blamed on declining morals.
