The 8, five Ukrainians and three Russians were nabbed on June 14 while operating without authorization for a community-based organization in Dunga area, Kisumu County.

They were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Julius Ngar Ngar.

Justice Ngar Ngar heard that one of them, Natalia Yevtushyk, employed three of the foreigners as volunteers without proper documentation.

The group was arrested while working at the Presbyterian Daddy's Community Organization, where some were working as volunteer basis, reports the Standard.

The judge ruled that they be released on Sh500, 000 bond each, with a surety of a similar amount, a ruling that was opposed by their lawyer Mitchele Menezes.

Menezes urged the court to hand them a reasonable bond.

However, the request was thrown out by Justice Ngar, who also noted that some foreigners have disappeared after being granted bond.

He also rejected the prosecution's push to have him detain them on grounds that they can easily get their documents at their respective embassies and flee the country.

Two of the accused failed to take a plea due to lack of a translator.
