Traders at Eldoret main market will be forced to sell their commodities outside the market for another one month after High Court granted more time for the county government of Uasin Gishu to complete ongoing renovations.
Lawyers for the county government had applied for more time at the court, noting that the renovation is almost complete.
Appearing before judge Anthony Obwayo on Friday, the county government officials through their lawyers asked the court not to take action against them after failing to honour court's ruling in late March to complete renovations and resettle the traders within 90 days.
However the traders through their lawyer Tobias Mugambi agreed to the plea by the county government to complete renovations within 30 days.
Judge Obwayo has set October 22 this year as the date for hearing and determination of whether the second court orders have been followed.
The county government of Uasin Gishu closed the market for renovations in March this year, a decision that caused an uproar amongst over 2,000 traders that were using the facility to earn a livelihood.
The move came at a time the county was also conducting an operation to flash out hawkers who were operating illegally within the Eldoret town Central Business District (CDB).
