Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has badly exposed Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko over his suspended Monday directive banning all Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) from accessing the city centre.
In a long Facebook post, Kuria revealed that Sonko's directive was a bitter move oppose the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NAMATA) from taking over matters transport in the city.
"Governor Mike Sonko remains bitterly opposed to NAMATA on the spurious grounds that it is a ploy to deny him revenue and claw back on his powers. Both claims are unfounded and not true. Governor Mike Sonko remains to be the biggest impediment to streamlining the greater Nairobi Metropolitan Area's transportation," Kuria posted
He further added that the governor's move was just to divert public attention on his opposition to NAMATA from taking over the sector.
"His latest moves to adopt knee-jerk measures to 'decongest the city' are just a smokescreen meant to divert attention from his opposition to NAMATA. Nairobi's transportation problems are complex as they have built up over time," MP Kuria added.
On Monday morning, city commuters were forced to trek kilometres to their workplaces as the directive took effect. However, Sonko later suspended the move for more consultations owing to a massive outcry by city residents and a section of politicians.
