Kuria noted that there is urgent need to recruit new commissioner's and have those who resigned replaced to ensure that the polls agency's activities are not stalled.

According to Kuria, the IEBC as it is currently constituted cannot make key decisions in regards to by-elections and the much anticipated 2022 polls.

The Jubilee MP also said that there is need to fix the commission Secretariat and ensure the smooth running of activities.

Kuria opined that the commission should start getting ready for the 2022 polls as early as possible.

"The IEBC needs serious reforms in order to guarantee fair and credible 2022 general election," the Jubilee MP told journalists on Monday at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.

Kuria said that failure to reform the electoral commission will lead to issues that often crop out after every general election.

"We must take advantage of the handshake and initiate key reforms at the polls agency for fair and credible 2012 polls," he added.

The MP said that the electoral reforms agenda that the opposition leaders were pushing before the March 9 handshake must be pursued and implemented.

In March, three IEBC commissioners resigned living the polls agency with two commissioners and the chairman, Wafula Chebuakti.

The IEBC Secretariat is also in limbo following the suspension of Chief  Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba over tender issues relating to the 2017 general election.

ChebuKati has been calling for the replacement of the commissioners to enable the polls agency start preparation for the 2022 polls.
